Welcome to Schloss Mittersill, the castle hotel in Austria. A place where centuries of history and timeless elegance come together to create an incomparable experience.A place for unforgettable moments since 1533. Our historic castle chapel offers the perfect setting for special occasions, such as romantic weddings that will be remembered for a lifetime.
This extraordinary chapel, a jewel from the late Gothic period, was built in the course of reconstruction after the Peasants' Wars. The year 1533 and the coat of arms of Salzburg Archbishop Matthäus Lang above the portal bear witness to its rich history. The ornate altar and the magnificent wall frescoes lend the room a sublime atmosphere - a place where history comes alive and memories are created for eternity.

An enchanted retreat with a view of the majestic Alps. The scent of blooming flowers fills the air as you enjoy the picturesque scenery - a feast for the senses in the midst of nature.
Settle down on one of the comfortable loungers, sink into a good book or close your eyes to listen to the gentle wind in the trees. Or explore the extensive castle grounds on a walk that takes you from the enchanting garden to the tennis court - a perfect mix of relaxation and exercise in an environment full of history and charm.

A landmark of times gone by. From our imposing defense tower, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the wide Salzach Valley and the surrounding mountains - a historic place that you can experience up close.
The fortified tower with its historic battlements bears witness to an eventful past: taxes and customs duties were once collected here from travelers on the trade routes of the Felbertauern and Salzach valleys. The tower was not only used for control, but also for the defense of the castle. Even today, if you look closely, you can discover traces of this time - perhaps even the odd bullet hole that tells of battles long past.

A walk through history. On the second floor of the castle, the historical atmosphere unfolds in every detail. The ornate wood paneling from the 19th century emphasizes the historical charm and lends the rooms a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Some of the castle's most impressive suites are also located here: the Queen Juliana Honeymoon Suite, named after the former Dutch monarch who once spent her honeymoon here, the Hunting Room, which impresses with its original wooden floor, and the Tower Suite, which invites you to relax and dream with its own tower and an exclusive infrared cabin.

Hidden deep beneath the walls of the castle are three unique places dating back to the 15th century that combine history and pleasure. Our wine cellar, a refuge for connoisseurs, houses exquisite wines and international rarities - a true paradise for wine lovers.
The vaulted cellar, surrounded by mighty stone walls and the gentle crackling of the fireplace, invites you to spend convivial evenings in timeless comfort. Mystical and shrouded in legend, the witches' cellar unfolds its special atmosphere - today an exclusive venue for wine tastings and unforgettable experiences. Three extraordinary places that breathe history and make every moment special.

Where the past and the future meet.
Castle history
A place that unites time and history. Schloss Mittersill has stood majestically above the Salzach Valley since 1150, evolving over the centuries from a fortress to a refuge and meeting place for the world’s elite. Feel the air of history, where traditions meet the glamor of times gone by and new chapters are written.
In the beginning
Around the year 1150, the Counts of Lechsgemünd in Bavaria had the first castle built to control the important road in the valley. In the first half of the 13th century, Schloss Mittersill came into the possession of the Archbishopric of Salzburg through an exchange and became the seat of the governor for the Upper Pinzgau.
The world's most exclusive society club
Baron Hubert von Pantz acquired Schloss Mittersill in 1935. And in keeping with the Baron's lifestyle, preferred leisure activities and illustrious and prominent friends from the old Austrian aristocracy, Hubert von Pantz established the most exclusive society club in the world at Schloss Mittersill at the time: the Mittersill Sport & Shooting Club.
The end of the Sport & Shooting Club
In the mid-1960s, the club decided to sell Schloss Mittersill. In 1967, the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) acquired the building to use it as a conference and training center. Above all, it served as a kind of youth hostel where young people from all over the world came together. They played music, read and enjoyed the region's leisure activities, such as skiing. Even today, former guests from this period come back to the hotel to see what the castle has become and to relive memories of their stays.
A new beginning
In December 2009, the castle came into Pinzgau ownership for the first time in its history. Since then, the entire building has been extensively and sensitively renovated in order to preserve its historical charm and equip it with the most modern comforts.
Today
Today you can experience the unique ambience of a centuries-old castle combined with the first-class standard of a 4-star superior castle hotel.
